A sparkly crowd of more than 300 filled Port City Music Hall for Glitterati, a literary ball in support of The Telling Room. The nonprofit provides a free writing center and storytelling programs for local students. Each year it publishes a well-received anthology of student work

A sold-out crowd filled the Portland Museum of Art for the Blue Wrap Project Runway fashion show put on by Partners for World Health. Each of the show's garments was constructed from blue wrap, a synthetic fabric used to sterilize medical instruments. Partners for World Health collects unused medical supplies discarded by Maine healthcare facilities and distributes them to medical facilities in the developing world. The organization receives a lot of blue wrap, yet can't send it overseas because hospitals in less affluent nations employ reusable towels to sterilize instruments rather than disposable blue wrap.

Portland Flower Show Gala - March 9, 2011

Hundreds of people turned out for the Portland Flower Show's opening gala. Inside two halls in the sprawling Portland Company Complex, 16 teams of exhibitors created the most refreshingly green landscapes. Party-goers mingled among the waterfalls and the butterflies, enjoying appetizers, sipping drinks and casting votes for the people's choice award, which will be announced at the close of the show.
