  • A record crowd of close to 400 people showed up for Day One's 37th annual celebration, held at the Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland with all proceeds going to support the nonprofit's drug and alcohol abuse programs for teens. The event's big draw was beloved actress Patty Duke, best known for her "Patty Duke Show" and her Academy Award winning role as Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker." Funny and friendly, Patty was a delightful addition to the party. All during the reception and dinner, guests approached Patty for autographs and photos and she graciously obliged.

  • Maria Gallace and Tim Soley opened their Shore Road home to supporters of The Arboretum at Fort Williams Park for the Friends, Food and Fort Williams party. The affair served as a kick-off to the public fundraising campaign for the arboretum project. When complete, the arboretum will include 15 sites planted with native and sustainable species and linked by a trail system around the park that surrounds Portland Head Light. The group must raise $350,000 to fund the first phase of the project, and $3.5 million to complete it.
