A new nationwide competition made a stop in Portland Thursday night with an awards ceremony and party at Binga's Stadium. Called 7DayPSA, the event brings together filmmakers and nonprofits and gives them a week to write, produce, film and edit a Public Service Announcement. This was the second 7DayPSA event, with the first competition held earlier this year in Rhode Island. Next up are competitions in New Hampshire, Boston and Connecticut.

Three well-loved Maine businesses took home top honors at the Maine Family Business Awards Dinner. Sweetser's Apple Barrel & Orchards, operated by the Sweetser family in Cumberland Center since 1812, won the Maddy Corson Award for a family-owned business with fewer than 25 employees.Marden's Surplus & Salvage of Waterville - known across the state for its catchy slogan and fabulous deals - won the Leon Gorman Award for a family-owned business with 25 or more employees. GHM Agency of Waterville won the Shep Lee Award, recognizing the company's strong commitment to community service.
