DANGEROUS ICE: Area firefighters in survival suits drag a canoe to shore on North Pond in Mercer on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012. A woman who lives nearby went out on the thin ice with the canoe to rescue a small dog but plunged into the water. She was later rescued by firefighters and taken to the hospital suffering from hypothermia.

RESCUED: Firefighters from several area departments lift a woman on to a stretcher who had been submerged in the water of North Pond in Mercer on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012. The woman had gone onto the thin ice to rescue her dog and broke through the ice. The dog drowned and the woman was transported to the hospital suffering hypothermia.
